In “BANNED: Music,” Apollo Chamber Players’ Nov. 12 concert at Holocaust Museum Houston, the quartet will perform music from cultures in which public and even private musical performances have been circumscribed if not outright banned, illustrating the wide-ranging consequences of limiting artistic expression.

“By examining these societies and governments that have banned or censored music and artistic expression, I feel we can better understand why this is so harmful both individually and collectively as a culture,” says Apollo founder, violinist, and artistic director Matthew J. Detrick. “To create is to live, and to be human. I think that’s fundamental.”
