Gulfton Studies
Two adjacent communities underscore the starkly divergent ways in which the coronavirus outbreaks in Texas has attacked daily life. Residents in the spacious homes of Bellaire, Texas have largely avoided the coronavirus. But the virus has spread considerably in Gulfton, an adjacent community in Houston where people are packed into apartments.
A New Vision for Hillcroft Avenue is a project prioritized by the Mayor’s Safer Streets initiative which was announced in April 2019 in the Gulfton neighborhood, and was moved forward by Connect Community and Together for Safer Roads.
This report spotlights the work taking place in the five pilot Complete Communities to build community resilience. By documenting the processes surrounding these key community initiatives, this report identifies best practices that should underpin future work in Houston neighborhoods.
The Gulfton Action Plan outlines the vision, policies, goals and projects that have been identified through the complete community planning process to
move the neighborhood towards a healthier, more prosperous, resilient, and equitable future.
Through their role as the 'community quarterback,' Connect Community is working with partners on several parallel efforts to define goals and advance community revitalization.
